What you can do is add a second pill of Time on the Column shelf.
Right-Click on the axis and select Dual Axis and Synchronize Axis.
Now each of those axis have it's own set of shelf properties.
Keep one as is, and on the second one , change the Mark from Shape to line.
This way you have a line chart overlapping your Shape chart.

Think of it this way - each layer is a separate chart type -
so 2 different types get 2 layers
