I moved this into the Server Admin forum since you are asking about caching and tabcmd and report refreshing which is what admins are more familiar with.
First, tabcmd isn't a solution.
Second, don't worry about caching, let's keep things simple.
Third, correct, you won't see the timestamp update continuously because Tableau is NOT a real-time reporting product. You must force a refresh in order for the report to update w/new data.
Fourth, here's a good article from Zen Master Shawn Wallwork about various ways to perform automated refreshes: Tinkering with Data Refresh & Auto-Refresh « Tableau Tinkering
Thanks for the shout out Toby!
Amit, just to be clear, your solution automatically refreshes the data, the view and the web browser all at the same time, without any user-intervention? No clicking required? The screen refreshes every # of minutes all on it's own?
That is very cool!
Could you please explain how to use this solution for published dashboard on the server, do we need to add this to dashboard url every time we open the dashboard.
