# Control the sum of values assigned for multi parameters

HI everyone,

I am working on a dashboard which allows audiences to change the weights for each of 4 dimensions named Economic dimension, Social dimension, Civil and politic dimension, and Health dimension. The observations are 10 Canadian provinces which will be ranked based on their scores in these 4 dimensions.

To do that, I create 4 parameters for these 4 dimensions from which audiences can choose the weight values from 0 to 1. However, I want to be sure that the SUM of these 4 weight values must be always equal to 1. Can I do that with Tableau? Is there any way to control the sum of the values assigned for each parameter?

Anh,

I don't see how to set the max  value of a parameter dynamically, based on the sum of the values of the 3 other parameters.

But you can always  add a visual cue , to help the user figuring out that the weights are properly set.

Thank you for your reply. I like your idea, but my boss really wants the SUM of these 4 weight values must be always equal to 1. I asked an expert in the field and he said that we can try an external plugin for parameters named "Data-driven parameter (Link https://extensiongallery.tableau.com/. ) But he doesn't know why sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I am now working on it to make it work well, hopefully.

Another option  would be to create a filter returning true when the sum is 1. With this filter the worksheets would display only when the  4 parameters have a valid combination.
