# Question on Coffee Chain dataset

Hi Experts

Please help me with this question 'In 2012, what is the percent contribution of sales for Decaf in the East market?'

a)48.942%

b)54.765%

c)51.231%

d)55.875%

Below is the view I created for this question, but my answer is not matching with the answers above.

sum(sales)- percent of total compute using table(down)

Thank you!

You probably want table(across).

To me, the question is asking what portion of all of EAST sales was Decaf.  So that's the sum(sales) of Decaf divided by the sum(sales) of all EAST sales.

Hi Vani,

Can you attach your .twbx file intead of an .mdb file?  Right now it looks like you're calculating the percent that each Region's decaf and regular coffee sales made up of the total.

The question though is asking how much of the East Region's sales are decaf, which is a different question that you've visualized.  Filter on just the east region, then calculate the % of sales of decaf in that region vs the % of sales of regular (sum(sales)/total(sum(sales))).  That should give you one of the answers in the multiple choice question.

Best,

Paul

Hi Joe

I tried with table(across) but still results are not matching.

Thank you!

Hi Paul

I have attached the twbx file.

Thank you!

Given the data in that workbook, I would say that 30.99% is the right answer.

The only two possible answers (give the data in the workbook) would be 30.99% or 15.92% depending on how you interpret that question.

Hi Vani,

Thank you for attaching the .twbx file.  Are you sure those are the 4 corresponding answers for this question?

If we look at simply the sum of sales for each region in 2012, broken out by type, you can see that the East Region's decaf sales are not near 50% for either sales within the East Region, or overall sales.  All of those 4 answer choices you provided are close to 50% which makes me think those are either for a different question, or there's some other piece to this that isn't being considered.

Let me know if there's any other info for this, or any other things that should be filtered.

Best,

Paul

Thanks a lot, you are smart, but isn't this question very much misleading?
