This is quite suboptimal, but maybe it can give ideas.
Firstly, I think your parsing and splitting can be done in
Tableau Prep and then can pivoted into a Key column and Value
column and then joined back together. This may require your data
source having a hardcoded Row Index so that things can be
joined back properly.
Here's an example of Tableau Prep Split and Pivot:
A second VERY round-about way was converting your string list
into a JSON file which can be parsed by Tableau Desktop
(but not Prep: https://community.tableau.com/ideas/8851 )
Pulling in as a JSON added the Document Index, which made things easier.
But, I couldn't pivot the columns:
So from the Datasource tab, I copied that out to a regular text file,
loaded in that new text file, and pivoted that!
Oof. Too round-about, but I think(?) it yields the desired filter functionality.
Hoping someone in the community has an easier way.
