My installation is stopped in this Step, Step 6, is it supposed to take too long? What can I do?
Thanks in advance!
Yes its applicable. 2018.2.x versions required fresh installations for lower
versions. You cannot upgrade it just by using the installer itself and make the installer do the rest.
Have a backup of your Tableau Server and make anothe backup during uninstall process (it will ask if you want to create a backup before
What do you mean stop?
Can you provide screenshots and/or error logs?
Why should we totally removed the earlier version before installation of 2018.2.1 version.
Is there any specific reason to do this way?
Or do we have any other ways to not to uninstall the older version.
Can't we directly upgrade to 2018.2.1 from earlier version?
You have to uninstall your older version and/or will automatically
uninstalled by your installer 2018.2.x version before installation of Tableau Server with TSM.
It is clearly stated here in Upgrade from Tableau Server 2018.1 or earlier to Tableau Server with TSM .
Thank you for pointing to the useful notes.
Thanks again for the TSM installation steps.
I have successfully installed the Tableau 2018.2.1 on my test environment.
Now i am trying to restore the data.

I'm glad it works for you
Do you know if similar steps are needed for a cluster environment?
I think I am facing the same issue. Can you please specify which Username you used for 'Run As Service Account' ? I tried hostname/Administrator and it didn't work.
Thanks in advance.
What is the issue you are facing, if you could post the Error screen shot that would be helpful.
But I understand your problem.
With which user id you have installed the tableau server ?
with the same id you have to start all the services.
First stop the services and add the user id and start again.
If this is not the issue you are facing, pls post the scree shot.
I initially entered the Run As User without the domain info, that's why it did not work. I fixed my own issue by adding "ad\" (backslash) in front of the Run As User account name, then it works. This is based on our environment, but I am not sure what would be the correct setting for you. Sorry if this information is not helpful to you.
Thanks Evelina and Bhaskar,
For some reason Tableau Server couldn't login with the user hostname\username . It just throws bad credentials or unknown user and I just couldn't proceed with the initialisation.
After it failed couple times and I had to restart the services couple times as well, I was able to connect this user. I think that the Machine doesn't meet the prod min requirements and this makes the services fail to start before time out.
So, when I go to Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\ and click Change My Environment Variables, I'm not seeing any of the above while we're going through the uninstall/backup.
Is that normal or should I be worried?
If you did not see the environment variables then no problem.
If you execute the Tableau Server installer again it will definitely register to environment variables
for it is necessary upon installation process.
Hi Arun, Have you got set of instructions for multi node environment? Also our VMs are in secure environment so we also require manual registration and offline activation.
