C Palo, the issue is slated for a fix in an upcoming maintenance release of 2018.1.
The inability to open reader by double clicking a twbx seems like it'd be a different issue. I recommend opening a new Community post on that one, or alternatively opening a trouble ticket with Tableau Support.

The code change was included in 2018.1.4. 2018.2.0 had already been released by the time the code change made it in.
Under normal circumstances, it would have been in the next maintenance release for 2018.2 (2018.2.1, in this case), but that release had only a few changes to address a specific small set of issues.
It should therefore be included in 2018.2.2.

Marta Bialecka Oct 12, 2018 6:49 AM (in response to Rick Kunkel)Hi Rick,
There is another issue I’m having with Tableau Desktop 2018.1\ 2018.2 – I am unable to save my workbook.
I opened new workbook connected to SQL database created data extract, both workbook and data extract has been saved, then I moved to sheet1 and create some calculation and as soon as I press save Table Desktop freeze and next to the workbook title was alert ‘Not responding’, also something happened to data extract that I’m unable to use my data extract:

Hi, Marta. Thanks for the reply. The fix was included in
- 2018.1.4
- 2018.2.2
So, versions .4 or later in the 2018.1 product or .2 or later in the 2018.2 product should not see this issue. Select Help > About Tableau on PC or Apple > About Tableau on Mac to find out the exact version you're running, and contact support if you are experiencing the debug.log issue in a version that should be fixed.
The other issue you're describing sounds like a crash of some sort. It could have been fixed already (assuming there have been other reports), as crashes are high priority issues. You can check out the release notes at https://www.tableau.com/support/releases to see if it might have been. Definitely contact support if it's reproducible and you're running a recent version.
In either case, I'd confirm you have the latest version and move forward with support if you have reproducible issues.
Good luck!
