I haven't used Tableau Mobile yet myself, but I came across a link that may help....
The ability to use Conditional Access when connecting to Tableau Server using the Tableau Mobile app is a new feature request, and is under consideration by our Mobile Development team in terms of feasibility. It's currently supported when using a Mobile browser.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Has there been any more progress on this? We cannot disable MFA for security reasons but now no one is able to use the mobile app in our organization.

Can you give me a bit more information on whether you're referring to MFA in general or Azure's AD Application Proxy with Conditional Access? I ask because we're building a brand new version of the Tableau Mobile app from the ground up and have already received feedback from customers who've tested our Beta app saying it works seamlessly with their MFA implementation. If you're looking to implement Azure's Conditional access, I'd have to look into our plans for its future.
If you'd like to join our Beta program and test, the app can be downloaded using these instructions:
- iOS: https://www.tableau.com/tableau-mobile-ios-beta-program
- Android: https://www.tableau.com/tableau-mobile-android-beta-program
The new app will be installed alongside the current version of the Tableau Mobile app so that you can test without interfering with your current deployment.
I hope that helps!
I downloaded the beta and gave it a test and it works!! Thank you
Any ETA on when this will be released?
You're welcome, Jarryd, and I'm so glad to hear it's working! The new app is expected to be released this quarter.
We are looking to set this up as well. when you say that it doesn't work with conditional access, what doesn't work?
I'm currently trying to set this up with Integrated windows login, we get 2 prompts, (one from azure with MFA via conditional access, one from the tableau server) but it does work after you enter your credentials twice.
Another annoying thing that recently happened is that if you force close the tableau mobile app, it forces you to login again. that was not the case in the past.
I hope that it's OK that I'm answering your reply to Hardik's post. I hope Hardik responds with his experience as well. By not working, we meant that authentication never completed because, as I understand it, the previous version of the Tableau Mobile app didn't have access to the OS store it needed to verify the certificate used for conditional access. I have not looked the behavior of the new version of the Mobile app, 19.225.1731 and newer.
In regard to begin forced to log in each time you open the app, the new version of the Tableau Mobile app has new authentication capabilities and makes use of OAuth tokens to determine session longevity. The token lasts for 14 days. If you return to the app before the token expires, it will refresh and be valid for another 14 days.
Manual sign-in is required in the following cases:
- The first time the app is used to connect to a given server
- When you sign out of a server and connect again
- If the OAuth token has expired
- Tableau Administrator has turned off "Connected Clients", forcing their user community to sign in each time (see Disable Automatic Client Authentication - Tableau)
My guess is that something is blocking the Mobile app's access to the OAuth endpoint on Tableau Server. I recommend creating a Support Case so we can examine the behavior more closely. Please use a PC browser to navigate to https://www.tableau.com/support/case to submit a case and feel free to drop my name and the information above into the case!
I’m assuming the certificate check is for intune membership, we are not checking for that (yet).
Created a new thread for my continued login prompt
