kumar bharat Apr 30, 2018 4:03 AM (in response to Nipa Madhani)Hi Nipa,
Try closing all instances of tableau desktop that are open and restart your computer and see if it works.
you can raise a support ticket with tableau if nothing seems to resolve your issue.

Andriy Storozhuk Apr 30, 2018 10:27 AM (in response to kumar bharat)I have the same issue. Each time when I open Tableau 2018.1 64bit it creates debug.log text file.
It happened recently April 27.
How to resolve this issue?

David Bullock May 4, 2018 7:57 AM (in response to Nipa Madhani)I have the same issue but it only happened when double-clicking on the Tableau file. If I use the right-click and open using Tableau or if I load the twb file directly into Tableau, the issue does not happen.

It happens when you double click the installer or a workbook (I haven't checked other files that would open in Desktop, like TDS, etc.) The debug.log file is created in the location you clicked the installer or workbook. I too have not seen it doing File > Open, right click workbook > open with, or other methods.
Also, for what it's worth, it doesn't happen if you perform the action as an administrator. It's not super straightforward to check this with a workbook, but what I did was open two command prompts, one as and admin, and one not. Type the name of the workbook and hit enter so that it launches Tableau (the default app). The one you ran as an admin will not create/append the debug.log file.

11. Re: Debug.log file generated after opening Tableau Desktop
Lindsey Housley May 15, 2018 2:29 AM (in response to Nipa Madhani)1 of 1 people found this helpfulI logged a call with Tableau re this too and their response was;
"We currently have an open investigation on this issue going on. This issue is identified by ID 774517.
The Development team fixed the behavior and the fix will be implemented in the next Tableau Reader/Tableau Desktop releases.
The current workaround is to open the workbook from File > Open > select the workbook.
An alternative workaround is to open Tableau Desktop as Administrator (right click on Tableau Reader icon > select "Run as Administrator").
Though I cannot give a firm date for the fix implementation, due to the many moving parts that go into new releases, Tableau maintains a frequent maintenance and product release cycle and when the product is available, details will be included in our release notes."
So although it's annoying I'm just ignoring the extra 'Debug.file' in the meatime until it's fixed in the next release.

Juan Manuel MartÃnez Reyes May 26, 2018 12:20 AM (in response to Nipa Madhani)I have the same problem and also I can not open two workbooks at the same time (Unable to connect to the server "". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.). If I open just one workbook works fine, but if I open other different workbook don't work. Anyone else has noticed this same situation?
