It appears that people are still having trouble with this. The solution that I outlined in this blog post works for me. Be sure to check your browser security if this isn't working.
The steps are outlined here:
First, build the URLs for Google Maps and/or Google Streetview. To display these maps in both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public, they need to be rendered in an iframe. You are welcome to use my website to do this.
There is a working version of this here:
This renders the map through the iframe. Click on a point for a dashboard action to update Google Maps and there is a button for Google Streetview. All of these links have the Data Plus Science iframe in front of it so that it will render in both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public. I have tested this in Chrome and IE and it works.
Also, here are the URLs that I'm using for the various maps.
Google Maps Satellite View (Lat/Long):
Google Street View (Lat/Long):
Google Maps (City and Lat/Long):
I hope this helps.
Many thanks for this Jeff - saved me a lot of time!
I am looking to embed the google direction maps in Tableau Server but it is working fine in Tableau Desktop but is not working in Server
Let me know how to embed the directions map in Tableau Server URL
Jeff, thanks for allowing us to use your iframe - I don't really know what this means, but I'm grateful.
Sadly, while I can get it to work for a single point, I cannot get it to work when I'm doing driving directions. In google chrome I get "www.google.com refused to connect". In Internet Explorer I get "this content cannot be displayed in a frame". It does work when I open it in a new window, so the url is good.

Thank you for the note. I'm glad you found it useful.
For the directions, you need to get a Google API key. This is free and I believe they give you a monthly credit, so unless you are hitting it with huge volume you should be fine. Change the URL to this format. Insert your API key, drop in the Origin and Destination address like you had before and append it to my iframe and all should work well.
More info available here.
Edit: Here's the viz I've been trying to create using Tableau and Google Maps: Tableau Public
