# Assistance with how to calculate % of a Total across a variable range

Hi All,

I would appreciate any assistance with developing the calculated fields to enable me to calculate % of Total “Unscheduled” delays across a variable range in my workbook.

Logic:

• I have two tabled performance areas in my attached workbook, namely
1. Ops (Sheet – OVT Ops), and
2. Engineering (Sheet – OVT Mech&Elect)

• For each performance area, I determine
1. Hours delay duration (measures field - Harvest Dlyduration)
2. Financial impact (measures field - Business \$ Loss), and
3. The % of respective hour delay, of total Unscheduled delay duration (measures field - *% of Total Unsched) “This measure is my problem area”

Assistance required context:

• For both my performance tables, I need a calculated filed that will enable me to determine the % of each respective delay, of the total Unscheduled delay duration.
• I have also introduced a depiction below, and as a dashboard in my workbook to illustrate what I’m attempting to calculate.

I have attached my workbook (v10.5.2)

Any guidance will be most appreciated,

Cheers,

Lance

Hi Sudheer,

Appreciate the feedback mate, however I need to have two independent tables,

I noticed that the % of total is correct when you combine the "Harvest Cause", but fails, when you evaluate the Ops and Mech&Elect independently as I need to?

We are close to a solution, please advise an alternate approach if possible?

Thanx again,

Lance

Hi Zhouyi,

Appreciate the support mate,

Are you able to get the correct % of values for the two independent tables?

Namely, the Ops and Mech&Elect

Cheers,

Lance

Yes, please filter the data as below:

Attaching the updated sheet.

Please let me know if I miss something.

In my workbook there are two separate tables, namely

• Sheet - OVT Ops (Harvest Cause Filter_Only Ops selected), and
• Sheet - OVT Mech&Elect (Harvest Cause Filter_Only Mech and Elect selected)

I notice that when I try to determine the % total independently, then the % shown is incorrect,

However as you are showing, if you look at all the Harvest Cause together, then it is correct,

Please refer to the image below for additional context on the two tables?

Hi Sudheer,

You are a true legend with the support and insight you provided in working towards a solution on my challenge,

Unfortunately, the calculated % for the respective tables with your most recent posted proposal, is still not aligned.

Thanx again,

Cheers,

Lance

Hi Zhouyi,

You nailed it thanx mate!

With your, and everyone's feedback provided today, I now have a deeper appreciation of Tableau and the % calculation logic.

Cheers for this solution Z,

Lance
