There is a convoluted way to get Tableau to do this. I don't consider any of these "hacks" to be "real" functionality, but people apparently use them every day. Basically, for each variable except your Category on Rows, you will need 2 column instances of a dummy calculated field (often called A or 1 by convention) with those columns merged under a dual axis. See the link below.
There may be a better way that I am unaware of.
I used the Attr idea (shown in video)
and I'm able to get:
- sales by Category by month ((Columns and Rows)
- an Attr field ( name of: 1 with value of 1)
- and make it a Shape (Arrow) on the Attr field
that's the good news,..
bad news, It makes a column for each month (value and arrow)
Jan Feb March
1 Arrow 2 Arrow 3 Arrow
I only want the Arrow (Attr) to show for the last month (March in example above)
n..g, when I delete the Arrow, it also deletes the Month and its values...
?? (make sense)
It's a little challenging to diagnose from text without the picture, but I think that you need to check your marks card. You should have separate sections for each ATTR(1). Make sure that for the first 3 pairs (for months) that you have Sales in the Text detail button, not Arrow in Text. Then create a final Attr(1) pair for the last column which actually shows Arrow. I've only played around with this approach - I haven't had a need to actually use it, so I speaking from rather light experience.
just checking that my attachment (twbx) got attached?
I don't see my attachment...
but I did see it when I added it (just checking)...
