I have an alternative solution to offer: BI connector. It provides easy, seamless connectivity to both Subject Areas and Reports in just a couple minutes. You can see a demo of connecting to OBIEE reports with Tableau below:
You can download BI connector and see if it meets your requirement.
We have built a connector that successfully connects OBIEE RPD and underlying data sources and publishes a Tableau Data source file on Tableau server. This solution has been implemented for couple of large enterprise clients of Oracle and Tableau. The solution is a server based connector and no need for any desktop set up. The connector allows other key features like defining the joins as per Tableau requirements, filters, changing / renaming columns and tables, and a workflow to publish a curated subject area as a data source on the tableau server. The connector provides an ability to connect to the underlying data sources so no need to go through the slow processing speed of OBIEE server and leverage complete VizQL power of Tableau to build your dashboards. For more information please write to me.
We are having similar need .. wherein we need to use OBIEE RPD has source and tender reports onto Tableau.
Can you please provide insight of your connector .. it would be really great help?
Thanks & Regards,

Pl send me your email and contact information so that I can send you some material on this subject.
I am able to connect Oracle BI server using Oracle BI Server ODBC driver on Tableau Desktop and able to get data on tableau desktop, but on Tableau server i am getting below error
- The drivers necessary to connect to the database server '192.168.0.104' are not properly installed on Tableau Server.
- Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 5: Access is denied. (Oracle BI server, C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_Home\bi\bifoundation\server\bin\nqsodbc64.dll).
- Generic ODBC requires additional configuration. The driver and DSN (data source name) must be installed and configured to match the connection.
- Unable to connect using the DSN named "DemoBIServer". Check that the DSN exists and is a valid connection.
FYI, DemoBIserver is created on Same Tableau Server machine as system DSN. Oracle BI Server driver is also installed on same machine. OBIEE is also accessible from tableau server machine. Folder of dll is also have full permission, I am using Windows machine only for tableau server.
Did you install the obiee client on the server and is the driver installed with the same user as Tableau server service user? Getting Tableau to work with OBIEE driver is cumbersome. You would need to make extensive changes in presentation layer depending on your subject area, the performance problems would be plenty since Tableau queries are not optimized for OBIEE. The following article discusses some of those issues:
We developed BI Connector specifically to address these issues and make it easy to use OBIEE as a data source.
