Also, I think I should add that this field, "Number of Incidents", must have existed in the data connection file at some point. It sounds like a name for a calculated field that I would've created
Are you able to post the workbook (twbx file)?
If not, I would recommend sending this to our support team at firstname.lastname@example.org
Be sure to include:
1. Packaged workbook (twbx file)
The data is confidential. So I can neither post it nor send it to the support team.
I am not sure looking at the tableau file would tell you anything more about the problem.
Thanks for the reply though.

This problem sounds similar to one that we've identified recently. However we cannot confirm that unless you work with our Support team to file a case. You may be able to send just the logs and the workbook file without any data (containing just the structure of the visualizations and the data connections).
The particular issue we are seeing is that a field which is no longer available is still listed as being depended upon by another field, for example a calculation or parameter control. You may be able to find the bad reference directly in the workbook file (the .twb is just XML) and remove it manually. Of course you should make backups of your work before performing such low-level operations.
I hope this helps,
Thanks I'll file a case with the support team.
In a mean time I had a look a the tableau file through a text editor. I think what happened is that "Number of Incidents" column was renamed to "# of Inc.". However in the xml file all the calculations reference "Number of Incidents" . So I guess the new name of the column is just a display label. I am going to delete the entry for "Number of Incidents" in here:
<column datatype='string' name='[:Measure Names]' role='dimension' type='nominal'>
Also I'll reset the name through Tableau itself.
I too am seeing the problem on a regular basis. Particularly as I am developing new Workbooks and tweaking/tuning SQL queries accordingly. Would be interested to hear if you found a solution. I will likely take the advice on this thread and try both playing with the .twb file and filing a support ticket.
