Hi, folks. I am a *brand new* Tableau user, so please forgive what's likely to be a silly question. I'm using Tableau Professional but not Tableau Server/Online.
I have a collection of large CSV files, each representing a specific year's transactions. I can successfully bring the files individually into Tableau.
None of the files contact a line for field names, so Tableau labels them F1, F2, F3, etc. There are over 125 fields of data for each row.
I am happy to supply the meta data (field names, specify field types, etc), but I don't want to have to do this each time I bring the same or a different year's data file into Tableau.
Can I specify the meta data once and then reuse it for future files? Are there best practice to follow when dealing with this kind of work?
Thanks very much in advance for any help or direction.
right click the data source from data panel, "add to saved data sources..."
save it as a .tds file.
Then you can use it as data source.
