# grouping of mulitple dimensions (created by calculated field)

I created few calculated fields and now want to be able to group them so I can filter by them.  How do you group dimensions?  I saw videos but they are all referring grouping within a dimension

Any suggestion?

Thanks

You can combined dimensions - Combine Fields

If this isn't what you're after, please provide more detail on what you're trying to achieve.

Hi Tom,

I combined four dimensions (Full Pipeline, >30% Probability, >50% Probability, >75% Probability) and named it Pipeline Type*

When created filter – it does not give option of those four dimensions instead I get detailed data.

See attached workbook to better understand what I’m trying to do or not doing it right…

Thanks

Based on the attached workbook you didn't combine the dimensions at all, you created a hierarchy.

Please see my previous link on Combining Fields. If that isn't what you're trying to do, please explain further what you're actually trying to achieve with an example.

I have a hierarchy as well as combining fields with duplication of dimensions.

Pipeline type (Hierarchy)

Pipeline type* (combining fields)

I see the combined field now - I was expecting it to contain (Combined Field) in the name.

You said : When created filter – it does not give option of those four dimensions instead I get detailed data.

When you create a filter on the 'Pipeline Type*' field, it shows the values of the dimensions combined together. This is how a combined field works.

What exactly are you expecting to see here? I cannot help you without some more details of what you're expecting.

I want to be able to use those pipeline types as filter.  Hope that helps

You would need to create a parameter which contains a list of the 'dimensions'.

Then you could create a new calculated field which outputs the value of the dimension based on the parameter.

I.e.  IF [parameterDimension] = '30% Probability' then [30% Probabability]

ELSE IF [parameterDimension] = '50% Probability' then [50% Probabability]

ELSE IF................

END

Then drag this calculated field into the report to display it and toggle the parameter to change the display.

Thanks Tom but looks like I’m missing something..

I created Parameter as you recommended  then created calculated field with the formula you suggested but I keep getting error in formula…

It has to be something minor but can’t seem to figure out

You shouldn't assume my syntax, keywords and functions are 100% correct  I'd suggest when a concept is explained on here you follow up by reading the documentation so you understand what you're actually doing;

I.e. - Logical Functions

You'll note the syntax is actually ELSEIF as one word, no space. Often I'll answer function questions on here with pseudo code (close without being exact) so it helps to use the reference material!

Awesome!  Thank you!!  ☺

Lots to learn…
