1. Re: Is it possible to create this kind of filter in Tableau?
khalid norat Jul 8, 2016 5:35 AM (in response to deepesh.moad)Yes that is totally possible
I think what you require is parameters with values ranging from 1 to 100 you can display these as sliders and even specify step size for the slider.
If there is a specific report you are trying to create please share some data, myself or someone in the community will be willing to help you create this

deepesh.moad Jul 8, 2016 5:55 AM (in response to khalid norat)Hi Khalid,
Paramters won't be dynamic .Client is looking to replicate the dashboard, as in the URL.
If we are changing one filter, all other filters are also changing.

khalid norat Jul 8, 2016 6:57 AM (in response to deepesh.moad)I do think this is possible.
After playing with the report its just a list of filters that affect all other filters.
It is basically the same as using only relevant values on all filters.
It wont have the same visual affect as with the sliders in tableau they don't automatically move but a darker grey bar on the slider changes to show the values remaining and being visualised.
If you can provide a sample data set I can try replicating something similar.

4. Re: Is it possible to create this kind of filter in Tableau?
Michael Hesser Jul 8, 2016 8:29 AM (in response to khalid norat)I'm with khalid norat on this... I think it can be done using multiple worksheets.
Each worksheet shows a line chart with "nodes" from 0 to 100...
Clicking on one field name affects the color of the "nodes" in the reciprocal worksheets, as well as the maximum value.
I've been working on something similar to this where the user has multiple entries that sum to 100%.. it's not up and running just yet.
I haven't figured out if I need to duplicate the data for each field or not, but I'll let you know if I figure something out.
Khalid: I have a very goofy sample set I'm working with. It's not working right now, but if you need something to tinker with, I can send it to you!

khalid norat Jul 12, 2016 2:30 AM (in response to Michael Hesser)Cheers Michael that would be great. I can have a go at this. Seems like a challenge but not impossible.

khalid norat Jul 12, 2016 5:01 AM (in response to Michael Hesser)Looking forward to the sample set. I'm feeling positive too. Just hoping I haven't bitten off more than I can chew.

Michael Hesser Jul 12, 2016 6:30 AM (in response to khalid norat)Hello khalid;
You may find my silly "sample set" wasn't worth waiting for, but I wanted to focus on the mechanics of the issue rather than the specific data. At the risk of having you laugh out loud, I've attached my data-- though it's a skeleton at best.
My thought process was:
- Create a sheet for each "slider"
- User selection for the worksheet would be captured [I didn't get this to work ]
- Selected value affects color of the active slider, so only lines up until the selected value are visible
- Captured value is then applied to reciprocal sheet(s) [again, I didn't get this far]
- This captured value would cascade, affecting all maximum values allowed for remaining sliders*
- *One would need to determine the logic of how the values cascade: does the sum always equal 100% or are they set independently? If the former, should previously adjusted sliders be "locked down" so they are not affected by new choices?
- Captured value similarly affects color of slider
- This captured value would cascade, affecting all maximum values allowed for remaining sliders*
You may have indeed bitten off more than you can chew considering the wacky data I gave you... but I figure if you're able to make it work on this small of a scale, the rest is elementary!
