I am following the exactly the same logic as what you developed in Tableau Quantiles help RL3 workbook. But, I am getting null values. Please help me out how to calculate 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 median percentiles?
I am using Impala data source BTW and the tableau Percentile is not supporting for Live connecction and working for an workaround to achieve these percentiles.
It will be a great help if you can have a look and suggest a solution.
This can be quite tricky to set up correctly (as you've found). There are three issues.
- You need to have the field that you are calculating the percentile of ([Buffer Gets Delta] in your case) in the view as a dimension (typically on level of detail) for the calculation to work.
- You need to define the partitioning correctly on the table calculation. In this case Compute Using [Buffer Gets Delta].
- That will result in multiple rows - where all but the one you want have a null value for the percentile. You need to filter out those null rows.
I tried to attach an example showing how to set it up but for some reason the forums won't let me attach either a .twbx file or a zip file. Not sure what's happening there.
Also, I'd recommend that you take the version in the calculation reference library here - I simplified the calculation when version 8 came out because it fixed a performance issue which needed a rather convoluted workaround previously.
The Forums have been getting blasted with Spam lately. I think the Admins have been kicking up security to try and block it. As a result, you aren't able to attach and a workbook.
This has been happening over the past several days, but hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Thanks Rody - that makes sense.
Praveen: let me know if you do need to see the example and I'll find a way of getting it to you. Dropbox or something.
Hi Sir, Sorry for the late response.. It will be great if i can have an
example or sample on how to do it. Thanks in advance.

I am again coming back to you for the help on the same topic percentiles. I
am attaching my workbook here for your reference.
I am basically calculating 75 PCT, 50 PCT, 25 pct, and 95 pct from the
logic which you provided. As, I am using the Impala the direct tableau
Percentile functions are not supported in Tableau. hence, I am trying with
your formulae. But, not getting the desired results.
could you please have a look and help me on this please ?
Thanks & Regards
