James Carter Jul 24, 2015 3:46 PM (in response to Joe Oppelt)Has any noticed any functionality changes in the sheet swapping and popping in the change from version 8.3 to 9.0? I've attached 2 workbooks where the action filter works in the 8.3 version but not the 9.0 version and I've made no changes other than opening the 8.3 version and saving in 9.0. Thanks for any insight you're able to provide!

Bill Lyons Jul 26, 2015 10:01 PM (in response to Joe Oppelt)I love this technique and use it frequently. It works great it both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server. However, I just publish a viz using this technique to Tableau Public, and it didn't work. When I published it with the conditional item visible, it wouldn't disappear when the condition changed, and when I published it with the conditional item invisible, it would not appear. This particular example uses parameters to drive it; I don't know if that is a factor.
Please forgive me if this was mentioned earlier in the thread. I scanned it, but didn't see this quirk mentioned.

James -- This should be a new, separate thread.
Also, I have the 8.3 version open now. When you create your new thread, describe what action you are referring to, what you expect to see, and what is not happening in 9.0. I suppose I could sleuth into the workbook and figure it out, but I don't have the bandwidth to do that today. So help me help you.
Thanks. -

Keith Helfrich Sep 11, 2015 6:10 PM (in response to Dan Huff)Hi Dan Huff and Diego medrano,
Now a year has passed and, as my dashboards are ever more complex, I find myself using this "sheet popping" method to bring in views from where they were hiding in negative space more & more frequently.
Thus, I would ask again: Can you please confirm that the "not blocked on server" behavior will be preserved as time goes by ? Optimally, desktop could be made to "not block" in the same way that server does.
Please confirm ?
Thanks!

56. Re: We made a video of Sheet Swapping and Legend/Filter Popping on a dashboard.
Scott Langridge Nov 6, 2015 7:12 AM (in response to Joe Oppelt)Thanks for the video, it has been helpful. I attempted to follow the steps in the video, first creating a parameter "Measure" followed by creating a calculated field "Reports to Display". However, when I create the calculated field it is creating the field as a measure rather than a dimension. I noticed in your video that the "Reports to Display" field was a dimension which gave you the option to be able to filter on the field. I attempted to drag the field from measures to dimension but that wasn't an option. By chance did I miss a step when I created the calculated field to designate the field as a dimension rather than a measure? Thanks, Scott

Hey Scott--
Does you Measure field have any aggregate calculations in it or any aggregations around any of the fields? If so, this will not be able to be moved to the dimensions list.

Joe OppeltNov 6, 2015 7:50 AM (in response to Scott Langridge)
Not sure what's up ith that.
Consider changing the [Reports to display] calc from continuous to discrete (or vice versa) if your output is a numeric value, to see if that makes a difference.Usually I set up the parameter to be a STRING parameter, with the values being the various choices the user has. And then my [Report to display] calc is just equal to the parameter itself. (Whatever the user selects.) And when I put it on the filter shelf, I choose the "custom list" option, and add the one value that this sheet needs to display. All very simple. Straightforward. In fact, I think that's how I set it up in the video. (My current pop-and-swap twbx is attached.
But Dan is right. Sometimes the condition that controls which sheet to display gets complicated, and ends up having aggregates. You can't move that to the dimensions shelf.-

59. Re: We made a video of Sheet Swapping and Legend/Filter Popping on a dashboard.
Scott Langridge Nov 6, 2015 7:53 AM (in response to Dan Huff)Hi Dan,
The calculated field was created off the parameter I created [Measure] and the parameter contain sting, so no I don't believe there are any aggregate calculations in the field.
Thanks,
Scott
