1. Re: Can i have TWO versions of Tableau Desktop on two machines using ONE product key?
Sankarmagesh Rajan Jun 8, 2015 11:51 PM (in response to Tong Guo)Hi tong,
One product key will work in single machine only. if we want to use some other machine then we can delete key in first machine and then use in new machine.
it will not work two machines at a time.
Thanks

Johan De Groot Jun 9, 2015 7:02 AM (in response to Tong Guo)It is no problem to have multiple versions of Tableau Desktop on one computer. For the transition from one version to another this is almost essential...

Tong Guo Jun 9, 2015 7:59 AM (in response to Johan De Groot)Thanks for the help! I'm wondering if i can install 9.0 in a second machine using the same product key?
My concern is that if i upgrade 8.2 to 9.0 on the same machine, will it somehow happen that i lose 8.2 after the upgrade? I need to make sure i keep 8.2 for at least another month. Excuse me if this is a silly question since i have never done any upgrade before...

Hi Tong!
You can have 8.2 and 9.0 installed concurrently on the same machine with no problems. I have 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, and 9.0 all installed on my workstation. You can have as many major release versions installed at the same time with no issues. The only limitation is that you cannot have multiple versions of maintenance releases on the same machine. For example, you cannot have 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 installed at the same time.
Hope this helps clarify!

Tong Guo Jun 9, 2015 8:06 AM (in response to Sankarmagesh Rajan)Thanks for the comment! I found this post where people are saying different things. Check it out and see if it makes sense to you.
Can I use one Product Key for Tableau Desktop for both my work desktop and laptop?
My questions is not exactly the same as discussed in this post though. I not only want to install two tableau desktops in two machines, i also want them to be two different versions. So i'm not sure how should i do that...

6. Re: Can i have TWO versions of Tableau Desktop on two machines using ONE product key?
Johan De Groot Jun 9, 2015 8:18 AM (in response to Tong Guo)1 of 1 people found this helpfulYes, you are allowed to use a second Tableau instance on a different machine with the same license - as long as you are the only user.
But you don't need to - the 'old' installation isn't effected in any way by the new one. The only annoying thing what will happen is that if you doubleclick on a Tableau file in Explorer, the file will open in the last Tableau version you installed (= default program for twb and twbx files).
