I think that if the two times in question are in separate dimensions (I think it would also be correct to say: separate columns in your excel file), then you can get the difference by subtraction:
[Date2] - [Date1].
You can create a Gantt Bar chart with the earlier date on Columns
and the Subtraction Difference Calculated Field as the length of the bar.

Could you provide a few rows of sample data? What do you mean by "didn't work?" What result did you get?

here you can define on what level you want the differences I amen hours, days, months etc.
