No, Tableau does not currently support generic REST services as a data source. Can you describe the type of REST service you are using, and what kinds of capabilities you would like to take advantage of? As we consider our future roadmap it's useful to have specific information about how our customers wish to expand their use of Tableau.
Having the same issue. We are retrieving data from REST Endpoint via HTTP GET with parameters (start_date for example). The server generates data in CSV format (depending on url parameters).
First row are column names. Web service pulls data out from Cassandra DB. Data is stored in wide rows (It seems that cassandra ODBC driver does not support quering from wide rows table).
It would be great if future Tableau releases had opportunity to interact with REST Web Service csv formatted data.
I would also like a solution to this, for Webtrends - which is discontinuing its ODBC feature shortly and forcing us to rely on REST URL generator only.
We too would love to see this feature in an upcoming release.
Any Tableau updates to look forward to that will provided REST feature?
In case you are still interested in connecting to the Webtrends API directly out of Tableau, I am happy to inform you that we (zweipunkt Ltd.in Switzerland) have developed such a connector based on the new web data connector architecture coming out with the upcoming 9.1 release.
