How to stop data source flipping to a local directory

    Dan Harrison

I'm using Tableau Desktop 8.2 and Server 8.2.0.

Sometimes, I connect to a data source on a shared drive, an Excel spreadsheet, say, on the M drive. I then publish the workbook.

A few days later, I'll open the same workbook (direct from the server using Server | Open Workbook). And if I look at the properties of the data source, the file location has flipped to a local temp directory in my Tableau user directory on the C drive.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? And if so, do you know how I might solve it?

      Many tanks.
