Calculating distance & using radius filters

    Jessica Lee

      Hi all,

I am trying to create a map that shows the density of Starbucks stores in nyc.

Attached excel sheet is the list of Starbucks stores in nyc.

I've been looking at knowledge base posts below

      calculating distance: http://kb.tableausoftware.com/articles/knowledgebase/calculating-distance

Using radius filters on maps: http://kb.tableausoftware.com/articles/knowledgebase/radius-filters

What I don't understand here is the first part of editing connection.

Here it uses the two different locations by editing custom SQL function.

I tried to do the similar things using Starbucks data, but it doesn't allow me to edit SQL function as written in the example.

I've read several posts by  Richard Leeke, but I am still struggling.

Is it mandatory to have two different measures and dimensions of locations, lat & long to do this analysis?

This is what I want to do with this data.

      1. Pick one store and highlight all the stores within 5 mile radius of selected store.

      2. Among those circles, find the circle with highest density.

This might be somewhat similar to what I want to do.
