# Grand totals being split when boolean is applied to color shelf

Hi -

I have created a boolean (true/false) calculation and placed it on the color shelf. I am trying to identify when a Marketing Campaign has reached a specific level of maturity or not.

This all works fine, until I get to the Grand total and Tableau is showing me the subtotals of the boolean calc as opposed to the window sum for each field (see image). Do I need to set something so that the grand total will ignore the grand total? Any input is much obliged.

Cheers.

Hi Mattheu,

I feel the information you have provided about your scenario is not enough to shed some light about the cause of the split.

If you share a workbook of your situation will be better for us to help.

Meanwhile, I suggest you to verify if your boolean calculation is also placed in level of detail.

Best,

Ramon

What Ramon said. But this thread might shed some light on the subject. Detailed explanation toward the bottom on the thread.

Thanks Shawn, that confirm what I presume is the cause of the split. The thread is clear and particularly your post helps a lot illustrating the reason of the split.

Thanks again,

Best,

Ramon

You're welcome Ramon. And thank Jonathan, he made me write it.

Thank you Shawn and Ramon.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was out of the office the last couple days. However my problem was not due to a Level of Detail item. I was able to solve my problem by changing my calculated field on the color shelf to an attribute.

Thanks again for the information. I was able to pull some good insights as to how Grand Totals work behind the scenes.

Have a great rest of the day.

Hi Matthew,

I would be good if you check the thread at least as Helpful Answer in order to close it and keep the forum as clean as possible.

Best,
