1. Re: why does the Data Export contain different columns when choosing Summary vs. Underlying?
Matt LuttonOct 18, 2013 8:21 AM (in response to Kerrie Despres)
The underlying data for the selected marks are displayed on the Underlying tab in the View Data dialog box. Notice that the number of rows that compose the underlying data is shown in the lower right of the dialog box. The summarized data is a text table of the aggregated data for only the fields shown in the view.

2. Re: why does the Data Export contain different columns when choosing Summary vs. Underlying?
Kerrie Despres Oct 18, 2013 10:06 AM (in response to Matt Lutton)Thanks for the response Matthew.
I may not have been clear with my question.
I am not talking about the number of rows of data, I am talking about the number of columns that read across from left to right.
There are 16 in the columns on the Worksheet that I published to a Dashboard.
I published the Dashboard and then Exported the data.
On the Summary tab of the Export all 16 columns appear.
On the Underlying data tab only 13 columns appear.
I don't understand why the Underlying export does not contain all 16 columns.

Sorry, I thought the definitions explained that. Your summary data includes aggregations/calculations while the underlying data does not--correct? So the extra three columns in the summarized data represent aggregates in the view, right? I don't have a computer in front of me to confirm this. If I'm wrong, someone else may have a better explanation.

4. Re: why does the Data Export contain different columns when choosing Summary vs. Underlying?
Ramon Martinez Oct 18, 2013 10:28 AM (in response to Kerrie Despres)Hi Kerrie,
On the Underlying tab with unchecked "Show all fields" in the Data View dialogue will show just the fields of the data source involved in your view (table, chart, etc.) without including calculated fields. Probably you have three calculated fields you are showing in your table view, and as you unchecked "Show all fields" the underlying data view will show only 13 fields instead of 16 columns of your table view.
I hope this help,
Ramon

Haha well it was coming to my inbox since I'd already commented. Always better to have two points of view anyway, if you ask me!

Post a packaged workbook or screenshots to get the best help. Are you using data blending? Are they aggregaions, like SUM(Sales) or similar? What fields are they? I assume they are used in the sheet you are exporting, right?

I apologize if I missed this, but if a field is "Grouped" it will that prevent it from appearing in the Underlying export?I noticed that some of the fields that are missing from the Underlying export have been grouped.
