Hi Jane --
Can you describe what is(n't) happening with filter and URL actions? These techniques should work for you assuming you didn't de-select the "Show Sheets as Tabs" option when you published your workbook.
After adding the filter and URL actions, I uploaded the 4 dashboards to my server. I then opened the landing dashboard and clicked on the "buttons" that had been created. The server didn't do anything. The "Show Sheets as Tabs" is not selected because I don't want the user to see all 4 dashboards immediately. I want them to start on a landing dashboard and then navigate to other dashboards by clicking on the buttons.
That's your problem., For cross-sheet/dashboard navigation to work correctly, "Show Sheets as Tabs" must be enabled -- sorry.
Thanks, Russell. As a follow-up question, when I upload dashboards to a server, they each have a URL. Is there a way in Tableau to input these URLs in as if they were external URLs so that there can be links between dashboards?
Can you re-phrase and/or expand on your question?
My first reaction to this question is "Yes, use the techniques we're already talking about" -- in other words, the URL Action.
But you know about this technique already -- which makes me think I don't quite understand what you're trying to get done.
If I were to add a URL link to a Google search on Dashboard 1, for instance, I could make a "button" and use a URL action and link to http://www.google.com. Then, if I clicked on the "button," it would launch Google search.
If I linked instead to Dashboard 2 uploaded on the server, even one in the same workbook as Dashboard 1, would it also launch the second dashboard? Or, would the Tableau server realize that Dashboards 1 and 2 are in the same workbook and thus not make the change because I'm not showing the sheets as tabs?
Thanks, now I'm with you.
Tableau would treat it as a "just another URL". It would launch Dashboard 2 in another instance of the browser.
I would like the Dashboard 2 to open in the same browser window. Is there a setting for this?
