What is the source of your data (MS SQL, Oracle, ???)? What version of Desktop and what version of Server are you using?
This may need Tableau Support help (along with log files).
Hi Toby, thanks for taking a look...
Desktop and Server at both 8.0:
Desktop Version 8.0.0 (Build 8000.13.0319.1225)
Server Version 8.0.3 (Build 8000.13.0712.1936)
The source of the data is MS SQL Server.
Where can I find the logs? We actually don't run our Tableau Server ourselves, but I can ask our host to provide some logs from the server side...
See this for creating a folder of all the necessary log files:
Ignore the part about sending the files to Tableau unless, of course, you have a support case with them and they want you to do this.
The resultant file will contain all the logs but I really wouldn't know where to start. Maybe do a search on the specific error and read the entries around it?
Have you stopped and then restarted the server? That's been known to help. If it does work but later you get the errors again then definitely let Tableau Support know! If that doesn't make a difference then uninstall / re-install server.
Wait a sec...what version of MS SQL Server? People have had issues with connecting, commonly the issue is due to versioning. Make sure you have the proper version of the driver --> https://www.tableausoftware.com/support/drivers
I had same issue with 2018.3.1, and I found the problem in one of my Excel files which works as part of Data Source, the path was changed from shared to a local one, I rewrite the correct shared path and issue resolved,
but it's weird because in earlier versions the error shows clearly that excel file not found.
