Hey David -
I have no problems connecting to a SQL Azure database from a Windows 8 machine.
I'm using the SQL Server 2012 Native Client drivers from the Tableau website:
Have you done any research to understand what the "oldest" drivers one can use to connect to SQL Azure are as far as Microsoft is concerned? The R2 drivers you mention are pretty crusty
Also, your IP address has been whitelisted in Azure so that you're "allowed" to connect, right?
Yes, my IP address has been whitelisted. I am using XP and SQl Server 2008 R2, so I will have a look at what oldest drivers can be used to link to and Azure database.
Could it be anything else?
I think you should also check the "bit" of the computer on where the SQL server and the Tableau is installed.
Maybe both should be running and have the same 32-bit or 64-bit processors.
I suppose this wont be my machine will it? or will it be the machine where the database is hosted?
If it my machine, how do I check this? Actually If i am running XP, sure;y 64bit wouldnt work on either Tableau or SQL Server. What is odd, is that I can access the tables directly from SQL server outside of tableau. Its just that Tableau cant connect. That is what is baffling me.
I think it will be the machine on where the database is hosted.
They should be both 32-bit or 64-bit in order to run.
You may check you client's pc and then compare you computer's "bit".
ok thanks. I will speak to him later.
i have downloaded all sorts of drivers and this is still not working. Any other solutions??? Is there anyone I can speak too directly please?
