# TDT: Tips and Tricks for Better Performance with Richard Leeke

Hi All,

New TDT this week, April 25, with Tableau Zen Master, Richard Leeke!

Topic: Tips and Tricks for Better Performance

Summary:

•   Explanation, discussion and examples of how to get some of the best performance by having the back-end do as much work as possible

Time: 12:00 PM Pacific Time

**Note different time (Richard is in New Zealand so this time keeps him from having to get up too early )

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

-Tracy

Here are the calculations I used in the workbook, plus some links to handy resources:

Calculations

[Inside Threshold] = [ElapsedTime] <= [Response Threshold]

[Number Inside Threshold] = TOTAL(SUM(IIF([Inside Threshold], 1, 0)))

[Total Number] = TOTAL(SUM(1))

[Percentage Inside Threshold] = TOTAL(SUM(IIF([Inside Threshold], 1, 0))) / TOTAL(SUM(1))

[A] = [ElapsedTime]

[Inside Percentile] = ATTR([A])<=[Elapsed Percentile]

I was also going to show how you can round the value to a lower precision to trade-off speed for accuracy but ran out of time. That is described on my blog (link below) - but here is the calculation for doing that ([precision] is a parameter

with values like:

0.001

0.01

0.1

1

10

Edit the definition of [A] to round it =>

[A] = ROUND([ElapsedTime]/[Precision])*[Precision]

I'm noticing a major echo issue going on with playback of this video . Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I hope the echo wasn't actually occurring during the presentation.

The echo wasn't there, but the audio set up was a little crazy, Tracy would have more info on that.

Oh yuck, you're right. The set up for the audio was very convoluted. Richard was using VoIP and there were some people using teleconference. Essentially, I had to set up 2 "conferences"--one for each audio. Then, since Richard was not the presenter I had to hold up my computer speakers to the phone--but Webex was recording both the VoIP and teleconference--what a mess!

This was the first time we've ever done this this way. If anyone knows how to better incorporate the two that would be a huge help! With a Webex event you can't tie the two "conferences" together.

My apologies for the poor quality of the video.
