Hi Saad -
Do you mean the "Preview" window that pops up after the publish is complete?
If so, no. This is a real-time rendering of the report that is dropped into the Preview window. If the user in question has permission to see the report and the data inside it, it will be displayed.
If I don't understand your question, please give me a bit more?
I was refering to the fact that a published workbook, once downloaded contains the data which can be viewedsey going to Analysis > View Data. In View Data, there is an underlying tab, and I'm interested in masking that content due to its confidential nature. Is there a way that can be accomplished?
Hope it clears out my query?
There is no way prevent users from seeing detail data in a packaged workbook which they have downloaded from the server. One could use Server "user filters" to prevent certain rows from being viewed, but this would impact your totals, as well.
I'd consider the following alternatives:
- You can use Server permissions to dis-allow users from downloading the workbook from Tableau Server at all
- You can could base the workbook of of a Tableau extract which is highly aggregated so that values are only recorded by region / manager / month vs. much more granular levels.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, Russell. While looking up for answers on web, I came across this product, Tableau Digital that claims to suppress the underlying data while publishing. I wonder if you've had any exposure to it?
Tableau Digital is the subscription-based version of Tableau Public. In essence, it also allows the subscriber to turn off the ability to view underlying data in the dashboard and prevent users from downloading the workbook itself.
As I mentioned (bullet #1), you can do this in Tableau Server already...so this won't get you any further.
