I think it's better to approach it differently.
I tried working with the index() and changing the compute using, however I pretty much got the same results as you did.
Instead look at the 2 sheets I added.
* The first one I added a calc that singles out 2011 Sales, then did a Top 5 filter on Product, based on my new calc.
* the 2nd one shows I don't even need to create a new calc, I can just put that IFstatement in my Top 5 filter
Check the applied filters

There are methods to get correct values using table calculations, however they require that the YEAR(Date) to be somewhere in the view and that will cause Tableau to break the lines, so I think Tim's suggestion works better and is easier to maintain.

Here is another route, that uses a Set to enable the compute using setting that you are looking for combined with the connected lines.
