1. Re: How do I move the location of the "Grand Total" row to the top

Hi Don,
Currently, the only way to do this would be to get the grand total on a worksheet by itself and the details on a separate sheet. Then, place the two sheets on a dashboard together. This might be a good one to add to the Ideas section though!

Larry Keller Jun 17, 2012 6:22 AM (in response to don.ryan.0)Don.....I have the same issue for a client of mine....a very large bank that prefers all totals at the top as their executive audience (Interactors) have always seen totals at the top. As Tracy said you unfortunately have to waste the space of another sheet to achieve your end

Shawn Wallwork Jun 21, 2012 11:26 AM (in response to don.ryan.0)Don, Joe's been cranking out forum answers all day! And he just posted a solution to a question similar to your's. I took his workbook and moved the pills from the columns to the rows and it gives you exactly what you're looking for. You'll need to ask Joe how it works, it's all his wizardry!

Joe Mako Jun 17, 2012 3:07 PM (in response to Shawn Wallwork)1 of 1 people found this helpfulAlso the advantage of this method over using something like a discrete pill for TOTAL(SUM([Sales])) in the Columns shelf as detailed at http://community.tableau.com/message/174779 is that this method of duplicating the data works when you want to have things nested within a hierarchy.

Larry Keller Jun 17, 2012 3:55 PM (in response to Joe Mako)Grand total at top - Joe I need this for a major account but the question is what are the exact steps to achieve this assuming that you are dealing with the Tableau user who is not SQL statement conversant? This can help many people with my account but it has to be replicated easily

don.ryan.0 Jun 21, 2012 10:03 AM (in response to Shawn Wallwork)Thanks for the insightful solution. I would still encourage Tableau to allow a UI option for Totals placement. This solution becomes problematic for more complicated sheets with multiple levels. Thanks again.

Ruan Crafford Jul 27, 2015 4:34 AM (in response to don.ryan.0)Hi
Has there been any change in Tableau since this post? with placing totals on the left, or at the top of a worksheet?
Thanks
Ruan

Vineet Gavri Oct 26, 2015 10:21 AM (in response to Ruan Crafford)I saw an update on this feature in TC 2015 where we can change the Total location to the TOP or LEFT, not sure which version will that be. Can someone from Tableau comment on it.
