This week, I want to talk about Tableau Online. We have a few published Quick Fix articles specific to Tableau Online:

And, of course, we have Tableau Online Help documentation. We also get quite a few questions about signing-up for and signing-in to Tableau Online, though, and I want to share the most common questions with you.

Signing-Up

  1. What do I do if I don't receive the email confirmation after signing up for Tableau Online?
  2. How can I re-send the Tableau Online invite email to users?
  3. How can I edit my username, display name, or other user settings?
  4. Why do I get a "Forbidden - You don't have permission to access" message when I click the activation link from the invite email?

1: What do I do if I don't receive the email confirmation after signing up for Tableau Online?

In some cases, the invite email is quarantined as spam. If the invite does not appear in your inbox, check your spam/junk folders.

2: How can I re-send the Tableau Online invite email to users?

  1. Sign in to Tableau Online as an administrator.
  2. Select Admin > Users.
  3. Delete the users you would like to resend an invite email to.
  4. Select Add, input the new user information and licensing levels, and then click OK.

Note: A ' . ' will appear before the names of all users who have not setup their accounts.

3: How can I edit my username, display name, or other user settings?

Option 1

Option 2

  1. Sign in to Tableau Online.
  2. Open your User Preferences page. For more information, see Your User Preferences Page in Tableau Help.
  3. Under Manager Your Account, click Change Password.
  4. Click Edit Account, and enter a new username.

4: Why do I get a "Forbidden - You don't have permission to access" message when I click the activation link from the invite email?

The email link that gets sent out for account activation contains a secure, unique token, and this link will only work once. Once the link is clicked and the account is activated, you will need to sign in from: https://online.tableausoftware.com.

Signing-In

  1. When I try to sign-in, I get an Invalid Username or Password error, even though I'm using the correct username and password.
  2. When I select Remember me, why doesn't Tableau Online remember my password?
  3. When I want to publish to Tableau Online or view dashboards published to Tableau Online on the Tableau Mobile App, what server name should I use?
  4. How can I check the maintenance status of Tableau Online?
  5. Why can't I access Tableau Online when signed-in to my VPN?
