Community Digest - Ending 11/30
Posted by Tracy Rodgers
Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you in the US, a happy Thanksgiving! It was a short week for me, but there was still plenty of activity happening around the community. Let's take a look.
Announcements
This Friday afternoon, the Tableau Community will be going through an upgrade. The upgrade will be a whole new look and some additional functionality. We're pretty excited about it! To see what changes to expect, check out the posts tagged with communityupgrade.
The site will be down from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM Pacific time. Our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this will cause.
Been waiting for the next TDT? Well, we've got one scheduled for this Thursday - Think Data Thursday: @Mapbox Powered #GeospatialLove with Anya A'hearn, allan.walker.0, and Chris Toomey. This will be a great introduction into using Mapbox if you've never used it before, and if you have, it will be a great session to see the possibilities that are possible.
Most Talked About Thread
Niranjan Banarjee asked how Can we insert Up or Down arrow icon on Map. Norbert Maijoor provided a workbook as a first start, but Niranjan needed not only arrows, but also a filled map. That was no problem for Norbert, he provided a second workbook showing how this could be done. Additionally, Mark Fraser showed how to use the marks card to provide more detail to the viz.
(One of the) Top Viewed Threads
Last week, we did a larger announcement about the new auto-translation feature in the Tableau Community. With this announcement, people from all over the world were checking out the community and in particular - this thread: Data - A Universal Language #ISpeakData, making it the most viewed thread of the week. If you still haven't participated, it's not too late to say what data means to you and how it can be applied across languages,
Top Voted Idea
Michelle Schmidt joined the community and created the idea Add a waterfall chart to the show me drop down just last week. Already, it made it to the top of the votes for the week - with 13 votes. If this idea was implemented, I think we'd start seeing a lot more waterfall charts out there!

- Speaking of dynamic parameters, Rody Zakovich started a great discussion on Dynamic Parameters and how the definition of dynamic parameters is different to different people. It, then, also started a discussion of how Tableau looks at different features. It's a good one to take a look at: We don't need "Dynamic" Parameters.
- New community member, Shaun Currier asked a very detailed question in Getting SUM when I expect AGG, when dragging out LOD calc from measure drawer. Zen Master, Robert Rouse provided two solutions, and then provided an example of how each different solution would be applied. This helped Shaun get a better understanding of calculations and LOD expressions within Tableau.
- Joan Pecht was trying to find a combination of countries that had spent X amount in a given month, but without taking out the data for the latest month in Vlookup/Filtering on Totals for a Given Month but still show all results.
