Happy Monday everybody! A reminder that I'm taking over for Tracy Rodgers this week to fill you in on all the Community goodness. As with last week, a little bit of trivia about today in history (Seattle edition): Today in 1990, Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. became the first father/son pairing to play on the same Major League Baseball team, playing for the Seattle Mariners. And now that our hearts have been warmed, on the the Digest:

This past week was another rendition of Think Data Thursday. The event TDT: I didn't know that was Tablossible is now available online and was absurdly impressive and definitely worth a watch. A huge thanks to Noah Salvaterra, Jeffrey Shaffer, and christopher.demartini for imparting their serious skills and making the event such a success. As always, we love ideas for future installments. Feel free to reach out to community@tableau.com!

Our Tableau Online initiative is still in full swing. For the month of August, any posts that come in categorized as Tableau Online will be responded to by one of our Tableau Online experts with a goal to respond to each post within one business day!

A big congratulations to Vladislav Grigorov for achieving the "Questions for Breakfast!" badge after having had 25 questions marked as correctly answered! He consistently brings energy, fun, and intelligence to our Community forums and we're grateful to have him!

Madhu Pimple started this week's most talked about thread: AVG should consider the total users it considers only the filtered ones Madhu wanted to compute a total for all users even when filtering some out with a user filter. Luckily, Joe Oppelt and Pooja Gandhi chimed in to help out.

Christian Lam posted last December about the ability to redirect URLs when updating a viz, to make sure users' bookmarks remain active. Eric McDonald gave a workaround which Toby Erkson confirmed. Check out the thread here: Is it possible to have the URL of a view redirected.

Top Voted Idea

This week's top voted idea comes from one of my favorite people in these forums: Matt Coles. His idea is to have Tableau come pre-installed with most necessary drivers and to make installing drivers into a more automatic process. I upvoted it and you can too:

Happy vizzing!

Happy Monday wonderful Community people! A quick reminder that I'm taking over for Tracy Rodgers for the next two weeks as she is out of town. I looked up today in history and we have a bit of a mixed bag. There's a lot of serious historical events but some interesting notes: Cornelius Swarthout patented the waffle today in 1869 and Pluto lost its title of "Planet" today in 2006. As such, let us dedicate this week's digest to Pluto and waffles:

Nicole Edmonds started this thread about receiving unexpected results in an LOD calc:Fixed LOD - value not "duplicating" as expected when looking by dimensions. Because of our spam protection settings, Nicole was unable to post a packaged workbook but Rody Zakovich and Simon Runc were helpful enough to provide a few different ways to resolve the issue.

Simon Runc started a discussion about Cross Tab Reporting vs Visual Analytics, and what a great discussion. Some heavy hitters to the community jumped in on it, and talked about the value of a crosstab and being able to see the data. Many people who often come from an Excel background are used to seeing crosstabs and thus try to bring that into Tableau. Simon, along with Rody Zakovich, Harley Ellenberger, Joe Oppelt, Pooja Gandhi and Bill Lyons all talk about how they explain to their clients and others when and why crosstabs aren't always the best solution.

Congratulations to Rody Zakovich for receiving the "Answer Wizard" badge! That means that 100 of his responses have been marked as correct by others. Two new members have also achieved the "I Know Stuff!" badge this week - venkatesh.sharma and Ben Page. Both are relatively new members to the community (Ben only joined in July) and both are making a mark. Thank you both and we hope to continue seeing you in the community answering questions!

Petr Romanov wanted to know How to create space between line and label. The issue Petr was having was the label of the line and it's value all on one line so that there was space between the end of his label and the viz. Jim Wahl helped him get pretty close to the desired outcome by using a bit of a workaround that involved using blank text boxes to hide some unwanted labels, etc.

Allan Walker's post about Alternative background maps was the second highest viewed thread this week with 859 views. It's always interesting to see which threads get the most views and trying to guess. In this case, there hasn't even been any new activity on this post since January 2014 - maybe maps are just on everyone's minds these days.

Aaron Mackey posted Hide Part of Tooltip With Sum of Count(Number of Records) where he was having some issues with the uber-tip tool tip showing information that he didn't want his end user to see (it was different than what the viz showed). Mark Fraser, kettan and Shawn Wallwork brought a couple of older threads into the thread which referenced uber-tips. Ultimately, it looks like an idea needed to be created for the solution to be solved.

leo dec posted the following last November - selecting multiple values in parameter. Steve Martin provided a solution that worked for Leo by using a set. However, Seanna Miller had a similar question and continued the thread, as the set option didn't quite work for her. Pratik Bundela also is looking for a more dynamic solution which gives the end user more flexibility in what they want to select.
