Happy Monday all! Here's a tidbit from the Community this past week:

Recognition

This week Raghavendra M and juliette.mccormack received the "I Know Stuff!" badge. They're both supplied at least 10 valuable and correct answers for people recently. Thank you both for your contributions - you're much appreciated!

Most Talked About Thread

Manish Virmani's post Apply conditional formatting on one Measure value had the most responses this week (20 posts in total, including the starting post). Formatting can often times be deceiving - especially when it comes to using Measure Names/Values. Luckily, kettan and Ville Tyrväinen were able to provide some suggestions to getting around the issue and solved the problem for Manish. Manish was extremely thankful and even made a particular call out to several power users at the end of the thread.

Most Viewed Thread

For the second week in a row, Prashant Sharma's New Features in Tableau 9+? is the most viewed. Runner up this week? Naquiyah Cash's post on How to create an Outline/border on sheets within a dashboard. KK Molugu, Chris McClellan provided some solutions using layout containers. Ultimately it was Ville Tyrväinen who solved the solution using annotations - a clever trick, I've never seen or thought to use!

In the Server Administration Community, the most viewed thread was one written by Sunil Tikar about Desktop vs Server performace. There were all sorts of detailed responses from the likes of Toby Erkson, Cristian Vasile, Vikram Bandarupalli and several Tableau employees, including Rob Anderson, Rick Kunkel and Matt Coles.

Top Voted Idea

Dynamic parameters and Multi-Values Parameters were the two most voted on ideas this week (with 20 and 11 respectively). However, I like to mention ideas that don't always make it into the mix, and this week the third most voted idea was the Option to Stop Running Background Tasks created by Dhanabala Jegannathan

Can you believe we're more than halfway through January already?! This year is going to fly by. This month has already proven to be a successful one for the Community - check out this past week's activity here:

Recognition

This week we have two people to welcome and thank for their contributions to the Community - Bill Lyons and Chris McClellan both received the "I Know Stuff!" badge (aka 10 of their answers were marked as correct). Thank you both - you're both very valuable members of the Community.

This week's thread was Sujith Kumar Subbiah's post, Tickets Open and Closed, where he worked closely with Tom W who explained joining his tables with a left join would make it easier to get the desired outcome. Hopefully, Tom's calculation suggestion resolved the issue for Sujith.

Most Viewed Thread

This week the Tableau 9.0 Beta was released, so it's not too surprising that the most viewed thread was New Features in Tableau 9+? by Prashant Sharma. Prashant and kettan reference some other great resources for using Tableau 9 that I'd definitely encourage you to check out!

Top Voted Idea

Behind Dynamic Parameters this week, Make published dashboards look exactly like desktop dashboards created by Stephen Wagner was the most voted on idea this week  with 14 votes. Pretty good, considering it was only created the week before. I would encourage users who run into this to submit this issue to our Support team.

Recognition

We have a new person who has attained the Answer Wizard badge (aka 100 replies marked as correct), Michel Caissie! In addition, Michel recently climbed the leaderboard and is now number 20. Thank you for all of your contributions Michel!

Simon Runc received the "Questions for Breakfast" badge (25 correct answers) on January 9 - pretty quick for having only joined the Community back in November.

Two members joined the 10 correct answers (I Know Stuff!! badge) club - Tyler Blakeley and Tableau's own Dan Sanchez - thank you both!

Most Talked About Thread

This week's thread was Patricio Panichelli's post about Two time series, one time axis. He provided a detailed description and workbook which prompted KK Molugu, kettan, ankit.narula and Jonathan Drummey to participate. After a few suggestions got him close, an explanation from Jonathan ultimately helped provide the "keys" to unlock the start of the "Tableau mental model."

Most Viewed Thread

This week's most viewed thread is the same as the most talked about - so the second most viewed thread is one posted by Chris McClellan in Data-based text message in dashboard. Chris wants to show specific text if there is null data - in which Tableau's Daniel Ong provides a calculation, as well as a formatting trick (Abhilash Ramanathan provides a workbook showing how it is done). However, it looks like Chris is still having a little trouble - hopefully, my recent post solved the issue!

Top Voted Idea

Behind Dynamic parameters (which had 12 votes this week), Multi-Values Parameters submitted by Loïc Grange received 10 votes this week. Third place this week, with 9 votes, was Alex Kerin's Automatic animation of page on Public/Server.

Community Digest - 1/5

Posted by Tracy Rodgers Employee Jan 5, 2015

Happy New Year everyone! As I mentioned last week, I will be posting a recap of 2014 later this week, but here's what was happening this past week.

Recognition

Two people have joined the 10 Correct Answers club or the "I Know Stuff!" badge. Both Steve Mayer and Syed Khadir Ahmed have been very active the last couple of months and are climbing the ranks. Thank you both for your contributions to this community!

Niek Dam asked an interesting question about the now() function where he wants the current date and time to continually update, but finds that it only updates when the workbook is updated. Several people jumped in and responded here (Ankit Patel, Syed Khadir Ahmed, Joe Oppelt, Tom W, Michael Carper, kettan, Steve Martin and Jonathan Drummey) - noting that Tableau Server would need to be used in order to have it update somewhat regularly. Jonathan explains how Tableau will need to be refreshed, not just the browser. Ultimately, it looks like Niek will need to create an Ideas to get the functionality he's hoping for.

Most Viewed Thread

This week's most viewed thread is a Tableau Server issue being experienced by Brit Cava in Inconsistent rendering of some worksheets in a dashboard published to server... Kalpana Manchikanti had faced this issue in the past with the operating system, but this doesn't seem to be the same problem Brit is running into. Max Houser, a Tableau employee, tried to get to the root of the cause by asking questions specific to the browse, though, this doesn't seem to be it either. Bouzid A asked about the Server version - using the most up to date version (8.3.1) can fix any issues that may have existed in the past. Hopefully, this solves the issue, if not, I'd recommend contacting our Support team, as they'll be able to take a deeper look into it.

Top Voted Idea

Tied with Dynamic Parameters, this week's most voted on idea is Alex Kerin's Ability to group Tabs into a menu like structure. I actually ran into this last week, and would love this functionality!
