A lot was happening in the Community this week, but what else is new?! (Although, I suspect next week might be a little quieter since it's the US Thanksgiving.) Take a look into some of the activity that was happening below --

This Week's Events

Bethany Lyons presented a Think Data Thursday session talking about sets - and man! She brought up a ton of use cases. Thanks for sharing with us Bethany! If you missed it, don't worry, we recorded it and you can find it here: Think Data Thursday - November 20 - Let's talk about Sets Baby!

Did you know that Tableau is constantly adding new articles to the Tableau Knowledge Base? Each week, Rebecca Szper writes up a blog announcing new articles. Check them out here: Quick Fix Article News

You may have noticed a new icon on the front page of the Community this week. That's right, we now have a Server Administration community! Here, Tableau Server Admins can connect, see resources and chat about anything Tableau Server.

Tom W achieved the Answer Wizard challenge by having more than 100 of his answers marked as correct by others! Thanks Tom for all your help in the forums!

KK Molugu hit the 50 Correct Answers milestone this week, now a Question Slayer- great job, KK!

Pooja Gandhi and Tableau kumar are also climbing the ranks, and received the I Know Stuff! badge by having 10 of their responses marked correct.

sriaknt ivaitu needed to know i want to add description to measure names how to do it. There was a little bit of back and forth with Raghavendra M and Rishabh Dhingra about the desired outcome, but eventually kettan was able to provide a workable solution and provide some ideas worth voting up!

Bouzid A asked a question about getting his filter to work across multiple data sources in DB. I remember struggling with this concept when I first started. Joe Oppelt provided the solution of using a parameter to filter all sheets, though this didn't solve the issue for Lucciano since he needed the user to have the ability to make multiple solutions. Eventually Simon Runc was able to provide the solution of joining the tables, since all the Excel sheets were in the same Excel workbook.

Top Voted Idea

Again, Dynamic parameters  [RELEASED | 2020.1] got the most votes this week (20, in the last 7 days). However, the second most voted idea of the week is Tableau in Turkish (14 votes the last 7 days) - Tableau is really growing internationally!

Happy Friday all! Hope it was a good week - the Community was active as always - take a look into a brief synopsis:

Upcoming Events:

We've got a Think Data Thursday event next week (November 20 at 8:00 am PST) - "Let's talk about sets, baby!" with one of our Product Consultants, Bethany Lyons. Be sure to register here: Think Data Thursday - Let's talk about sets, baby! | Tableau Software, and if you want to check out conversations around the event or see past events, check out the Think Data Thursday group.

Recognition & Resources:

If I had to choose three words to describe kettan's contribution to this community - I would have to say organized, insightful, and extremely invaluable. From categorizing ideas (Johan's Ideas Collections) to keeping track of who achieves what (The specified item was not found.), Johan now has a new series he's been sharing with the Community - his FAQ's. Check them out here:

Thank you Johan!

This week's most talked about thread was actually a Server question! Erin Gehn asked if  Administrator able to view all subscriptions? She got some great answers from Grayson Deal, Toby Erkson and Matt Lutton who shared their experiences. And she even got James Baker to comment on all the feedback!

Top Viewed Thread of the Week:

Well the top viewed thread this week is the same as last week's (Color Coding by column instead of the entire row). So instead, I'll provide the next most viewed - which is an epic thread posted by Alexandre DAVID back in 2013 - How to count distinct users on a running period. There's no wonder that it got a lot of views, when it had many of our Zen Masters (Joshua Milligan, Jonathan Drummey, Richard Leeke, Shawn Wallwork, Joe Mako, Matt Lutton and Noah Salvaterra) participating, as well as one of our Tableau's table calculation gurus, Ross Bunker chiming in. Though this thread is Pre-Version 8, there is still some relevant and useful content.

Top Voted Idea of the Week:

No surprise Dynamic parameters  [RELEASED | 2020.1] got the most votes this week (17 in the 7 days). However, “Web Data Connector” for Tableau Public (Released in 9.1) submitted by Steve Fenn got the second most votes this week with 11 out of the total 14 - not bad considering, the idea was just created last week!

Happy Analyzing!

Happy November and happy Friday here's a peak into this week's community activity--

Congratulations to Grayson Deal who has had 25 of his answers marked correct (aka the "Questions for Breakfast!" badge). No small feat when you've only been participating in the Tableau Community since AUGUST! Thanks for all your contributions!

The Crow's Nest has been having some massive activity - and the last 5 weeks have been completely cleared out. Thanks to everyone who has been working out of it and getting at least some response to everyone who has asked a question in that time! And thanks to Shawn Wallwork who has continued advocating for this We're Killin' It on Crow's Nest!

Andy Piper asked a question regarding Tooltip sensitivity level - can it be modified? Tom W and Shawn Wallwork provided a couple potential solutions, but looks like it may need to be something that is investigated from the Tableau side. Maybe Dan Huff can take a look?

This is an oldie, but one that's been getting a lot of views lately. Back in 2012, Murali Vasudevan asked a question on Color Coding by column instead of the entire row. As a result Jonathan Drummey created his epic formatting workbook, which has recently been updated and can be found here:!/vizhome/conditionalformattingv4/Introduction It's still helping people, as both Christine Harling and Wendy Foslien found out earlier this year.
