Most Talked about Thread

The thread Re: How do I use two parts of a pivotted column for x and y values on a graph? was posted by Laura Shireman on November 16th, 2017 at 11:47 AM. Deepak Rai quickly replied with a suggested solution as well as the ambassador Joe Oppelt stepping in for a brief moment to assist. Deepak offered several potential views with the given data source. In the end they determined the best method moving forward would be to re-shape the data in Excel prior to connecting to it in Tableau.

The most talked about thread was originally created on October 19th at 12:02pm by Paridhi Gupta with a crazy fast reply from Galen Busch at 12:03pm! There were several workarounds and suggestions provided in regards to the issue with Justin Larson providing a usable workaround that leverages calculated fields and some self joining tables. Check out the thread and the comments here: Converting Columns to Rows without using Pivot

The Top 'Liked" post this week started with a simple offer to the Tableau Community, specifically those working with non-profits, to work with a Zen Master, Shawn Wallwork. Offering up free appointments to those working in nonprofits, there has been several comments commending Shawn for the offering. Thank you for the generous offer Shawn and we cannot wait to see some of the spectacular Vizzes that you create.

Welcome to my first weekly digest! Hopefully everyone is having a great Mon.. I mean, Tuesday, as the US celebrated Labor Day on Monday!

Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country.

In the wake of hurricane Harvey we have seen countless stories on the devastation as well as relief efforts for the victims. The mounting cost of the effort is quickly turning Harvey into one of the costliest hurricanes to ever make landfall! To give a better idea of the costs incurred by other hurricanes Raycom News Network,  Raycom News Network | Tableau Public, created the below Tableau Public visual.  Harvey is expected to cost upwards of 190 billion dollars. In comparison to the most recent on the chart, hurricane Sandy, which had an estimated cost 70.2 billion.

Yvan Fornes recently wrote a blog posted featured on (linked-below) that discusses the use of Tableau and bench-marking. Many industries use benchmarks to determine the performance of a particular campaign, product line, or competition. Tableau allows Yvan to gain insight into the performance against the benchmarks.
